Hello. Attorney specializing in family matters, while looking into various things about adoption, I found that there are full adoption and ordinary adoption. What are the detailed legal differences between the two? I am also curious about the effect that each type of adoption has on the relationship between the child and the parents. If there is an attorney specializing in family matters, please reply.

Hello. I am an attorney specializing in family matters at Daeryun Law LLC.
I will explain in detail the differences between full adoption and ordinary adoption.
First, in the case of ordinary adoption, the adopted child acquires the same status as the adoptive parents' biological child from the time of adoption.
As a result, the child is subject to the adoptive parents' parental authority and a legal relationship with the adoptive parents' relatives is formed, but the existing kinship relationship with the biological parents continues to be maintained.
In other words, the relationship with the biological parents does not end, and legal relationships other than parental authority still exist.
By contrast, full adoption is established with the court's permission, and in this case a new legal parent-child relationship is formed between the adopted person and the adopting parents.
In addition, all legal relationships with the biological parents are terminated, and the adopted person takes on the surname and family origin of the adopting parents.
Because the legal effects can vary greatly depending on the form of adoption, it is above all important to undergo sufficient legal review in advance.
Therefore, we recommend that you look into the more specific and accurate procedures through a consultation with an attorney specializing in family matters.
