Attorney Lee Seo-hyung attended as a presenter at the '15th Korean Criminal Law Conference' held at Dongseo University on Friday, June 19.
This academic conference, jointly hosted by the Korean Association of Comparative Criminal Law, the Korean Association of Criminal Law, the Korean Association of Criminal Policy, the Korean Association of Victimology, and the Korean Association of Criminal Procedure Law, was held under the theme 'Expanding the Horizon of Criminal Law Research.'
Attorney Lee gave a presentation under the theme 'The Permissibility and Limits of Generative AI-Based Legal Tech — Focusing on Supreme Court Decision 2025Du35483 and Its Criminal-Procedural Implications.'
During the presentation, Attorney Lee emphasized, "The boundary of criminal punishment for legal tech should be drawn not by the name of the technology, such as whether generative AI was used, but by the substance of whether a legal evaluation of specific, individual facts was performed," adding, "There is a need for balanced legislation that clearly guarantees a safe zone for lawful innovation, while at the same time ensuring the reliability of AI outputs and due process, such as the defendant's right of defense, in criminal procedure."
Reflecting the high interest in generative AI and legal tech, this session was conducted amid the enthusiastic support of attendees who filled the lecture room.
