Out of curiosity, I tried to buy drugs over the internet. I even made the payment, but in the end I did not receive the goods and the transaction did not go through.. Then I received a call from the police and ended up being investigated. Even though I did not actually receive or use drugs, will I be punished in such a case? Attorney specializing in drug cases, I am so worried, please answer quickly.

Narcotics Control Act

The Narcotics Control Act provides for punishment even where only an attempt to obtain drugs is recognized.
Here, an attempt to purchase means active involvement such as depositing payment to buy drugs or inquiring about the price.
Therefore, even if you deposited payment to a drug seller and did not receive the goods, records such as the account transfer history and conversation logs become powerful evidence by which an investigative agency can find an attempt to purchase.
Accordingly, if you become involved in a drug case, it is more important than anything else to establish a systematic legal response strategy with the help of an attorney experienced in drug cases from the early stage of the case.
This is because an insufficient initial response increases the risk of not avoiding detention during the investigation and of receiving a punishment heavier than warranted.
In a drug case, voluntary surrender can operate as a mitigating factor.
However, because surrendering without professional advice can instead be risky, keep in mind that it is advisable to proceed with the case together with an attorney experienced in drug cases and establish a strategy to defend against punishment.
